BEANIES & BIKINIS

I went to lurk out some more L*Space biknis from SI '09 and found this picture of Audrina in an '08 one piece from L*Space.

Check out the Barbarella updated silhouette. Water Blue Bikinis at 3118 Monsarrat Ave. carries this in black, teal, and brown.

Apparently her sister's beanie is from Active. Anyone know where the stripe bottoms are from? I think I might need them.

Why wear clothes anyway when bikinis are so much fun? Swimwear is EPIC this year! Swell.com is carrying more L*Space pieces including the twisted bandeau and some really sexy embellished seperates....and a twister top knockoff from O'Neill.

THE WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS

It's the end of February and nothing much going on in the magical world of professional sports right?. Football's over and baseball hasn't started (Soccer and hockey....not for me).

Wrong!!! Stephon Marbury played for the Celtics today. And played well! And behaved himself! Unbelievable.

Also unbelievable is the fact that Bart Scott signed with the Jets for $48 mil. Hey, we all love Rex Ryan.....but I hate the words 'free agent' right now! I also hate the word 'rebuilding'. I'm hurt.

And to end this on a lighter note, my favorite childhood baseball player, Ken Griffey Jr., will be playing for Seattle again! THERE'S the love!!!!

ERIN WASSON X RVCA

is all over the place!

Including the cover of the new Foam.

Digital edition available here.

**This issue also has an article on Carissa Moore and the future of the women's world tour. Lots of local grom girls like Coco Ho & Alessa Quizon. Cheee hooo!!! Check out my buddies at NovusSwell.com for more U-18 surfing.

My favorite picture...Pat & Erin (:

SABBATICAL

I guess I started this thing because there were things I wanted to say. Not necessarily to let anyone know or to receive any kind of input or advice...just some things rattling around inside my head that needed somewhere to go....

“Travel keeps you young. It does this by simply putting you in situations that make you feel like a child again. Magically lost in a moment of discovery. Beautifully confused. It could be the first time you awaken to the 5:00 a.m. call to prayer from the local mosque on Morocco’s far Atlantic shore, the first time you paddle out over the shallow reefs of the Caribbean, or the first time you realize the people living in squalor can achieve happiness as easily as those living in mansions. These are life’s opportunities to shed the hustle of modernity, to join the moment, and stop sprinting toward some prefabricated goal. Your heart races. Your metabolism shifts into a lower gear. Everything is new again. You’re Sipping Jetstreams.” –Joel Patterson

I don’t know why I never read the introduction to Sipping Jetstreams before this week. I can’t believe that there was a piece of published Joel Patterson writing that I hadn’t seen yet. But anyway, this is a big deal.

When I lived in Philadelphia 5 years ago I ran to the gym from my dorm at 6AM in dark gray slush, sucking down cold air so crisp I thought it’d cut through my lungs. I was miserable. I waited like a kid on Christmas Eeve for my monthly issues of Transworld Surf then sat in my room, with the heat blasting, pretending to be in Baja, Costa Rica, the Gold Coast, Tavarua, the North Shore…. anywhere but where I was. I lived in every picture via the romance of perfect waves, hot weather, good lighting, and Joel’s words. I did a sketch every day until the day I dropped out of school and moved to Honolulu.

This is one of them:

Five years later, I read this little intro about travel and I can’t get Indo off my mind. My best friend said if I say ‘Bali’ one more time she’s going to hit me. I’m like two seconds away from busting out my markers.

I want to see what colors the waves turn in evening light. I want to take my time. I want to slow down. I want to be silent for days and just listen. I want to get scared. Get creative. Be reborn and live on a different wavelength than I do now.

To any of my friends who think I’m out of my mind, I just wanna ask: what’s the difference between losing it and finding yourself anyway?

ALOHA

Some thoughts on myself and where I'm going with this whole blog thing....

I live on raw vegetables, fresh fish, and lots of caffeine and on most days, I feel healthier and happier than most people. I love everything I do because I don't bother with things I don't. Easy enough right? I smile uncontrollably a lot of the time and sometimes I feel so happy I think my heart might explode.

Of course, with such great highs, there are disappointments and lows. How we deal with these is a big part of what defines who we are.

My mind races and my mouth can't keep up. This is where my hands come in. Blessed with the 5 traditional senses (and maybe a few more?) everything I see, hear, taste, smell, and touch turns into other colors, shapes, music. I understand things through design eyes. Shape, form, texture, line, unity, proportion, rhythm, balance, harmony...I realized that I take everything into consideration, sometimes consciously, but mostly just by default. Nothing is unimportant because everything contributes to your personal style and point of view.

I think age is a gift. There's something exciting about the dynamic of what you do and do not know at any given time in life. Beauty and style come in infinite varieties. Smile lines and sun wrinkles are as youthful as they are old and wise.

I'm an information junkie. I want to get my hands on everything. New people. New places. The world is fascinating and I want it ALL.
